Acne Treatments Ineffectiveness or Impatience
Acne treatments generate billions of dollars every year. People flit from acne treatment to acne treatment in search of something, anything, that might work. I used to be one of those people until I realized that trying a different acne treatment every week doesnt help combat acne. There are many reasons why an acne treatment, an acne product, or an acne program may seem ineffective, but the truth is, it may not work due to the users impatience. An acne treatment comes with instructions for very good reasons. When someone uses an acne treatment more than the product calls for, they may irritate the skin and, as a result, cause more acne to develop. On the flipside, when an acne treatment is not used as often as suggested, it lowers the effectiveness of the medication as well.
So, if you have tried one acne treatment after another, be patient. A legit acne treatment will probably take at least 2 to 3 weeks before you see some type of results. The key to getting the most out of your acne treatment is to use it just enough, dont overuse it, and give it time- dont mistake a products ineffectiveness with your impatience.

Adult Acne Causes and Cures
Sunday, March 29, 2009
The most likely cause of adult acne is thought to be fluctuations in hormone levels. Adult Acne especially affects women, with the current statistics at fifty percent of the population. Adult acne affects approximately twenty five percent of men. Recurrences of acne can affect people in their twenties through their fifties and it can be somewhat unnerving to be a fifty-three year old walking around with acne.
Hormonal level fluctuation in adults, due to stress, illness or even monthly menstruation, can cause the skin to secrete excessive amounts of sebum to the surface. You may notice that during these times your skin is very oily at the end of the day. This sebum blocks pores creating a build up of bacteria and dead skin cells, and eventually erupts into a pimple.
A simple way to prevent acne may simply be practicing meditation or exercising regularly to help keep stress levels to a minimum. Be sure to wash your face frequently during times of excessively oily skin. An astringent such as Witch Hazel, applied to the face right after washing will tighten pores and help keep acne causing bacteria out. Facial masks will draw impurities out of the skin. Look for masks with basil, sandalwood, strawberry, or mint extracts. You can even grow these plants yourself and make a homemade mask every couple of weeks.
Eating a healthy diet will go a long way towards healthy skin. Foods high in Vitamin A and Beta Carotene can promote healthy tissue growth. It's found in orange and green leafy fruits and vegetables. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and aids in the repair of skin tissue. It can be found in pumpkin, multigrain cereals, apples, liver, tuip greens, kohlrabi and a variety of other foods.

Is Accutane Safe
Isotretinoin, sold under the brand name Accutane, is the only drug that can cure acne, but it can cause horrible birth defects when taken by pregnant women. Reports from Britain and Israel show that Accutane otherwise is much safer than we used to think.
Acne is a condition in which normally colorless, liquid skin oils are converted to solid white material. Then the skin responds to the trapped solid oil by tuing red and swelling. A three- or four-month course of Accutane damages the oil glands and markedly reduces the amount of oil that your skin produces, making Accutane the most effective drug to treat acne. Having less skin oil should not cause any serious side effects as its only known function is to keep you from feeling too cold in the winter, because it slows evaporation of sweat. Dry skin is associated with lack of water, and aging of skin is associated with lack of collagen, not with lack of oil.
In the British study, ninety-three per cent of the people taking Accutane reported no long-term side effects. The British researchers reported that two percent suffered muscle aches at follow up, and 5 percent suffered from dry mouth. Fewer than one percent claimed that they had dry eyes and skin and joint pains. Higher doses were not associated with more side effects. The authors concluded that their study showed that isotretinoin is a safe drug with no serious long-term side-effects. However, it causes birth defects when taken during pregnancy.
A study from Israel also shows that Accutane is far safer than many doctors think. Many doctors refuse to prescribe Accutane for severe acne because they are afraid that Accutane will damage livers, raise triglyceride levels and cause heart attacks. In this study, none of the patients had liver tests that were abnormal enough to stop treatment. Only 1.5 percent of patients had serum triglyceride levels above 400 mg%, but all continued treatment. Only 3.5 percent of patients required a second treatment.
I insist that all women who take Accutane do nothing that could cause a pregnancy while they take it. Three months after stopping Accutane, a woman has no increased risk for birth defects.
I check liver tests and triglyceride levels and if normal, prescribe 40 mg of Accutane twice a day for 14 weeks. I check liver tests every four weeks and stop the drug immediately if the liver tests become abnormal. I repeat liver tests two weeks later, and if normal, restart Accutane. Eighty-two percent of those who follow this regimen are cured of acne for life. If the acne retus months or years later, I usually prescribe 40 mg of Accutane four times a day for one month. Check with your doctor.

An Acne Home Remedy Does Exist Will It Work For You
Friday, March 27, 2009
Have you tried an acne home remedy? There are an amazing amount of products that are probably sitting in your kitchen right now, just waiting for you to put them on your face! You might be surprised at how helpful these acne home remedies can be. An acne home remedy may be more effective than you thought.
In this day and age, many of us are used to buying our cosmetics in pretty bottle form, with the name of some well-known manufacturer on the side. And while there is no doubt that skincare specialists are working hard to bring us the most up-to-date combinations of chemical ingredients to help our skin look good, many of the basic ingredients they use can be found in our own kitchens, just waiting for us to use them as acne home remedies!
Homemade acne remedies can be as easy to put together as slicing a lemon. The astringent properties of this fruit make it a wonderful acne home remedy. Simply rub a slice of lemon over your skin before you go to bed at night, and see how clear it looks in the moing. Tomatoes are also a great acne home remedy, and can be used in the same way.
Other effective homemade acne remedies include garlic, which can be applied directly to spots and pimples. An application of mint juice is also helpful in treating skin conditions, including acne, insect bites, and even cuts and scrapes.
Raw papaya can also help reduce the swelling and soreness of those angry, sore pimples, as can a paste made from the peel of oranges. There really are a multitude of products available right from your kitchen that can be used as an acne home remedy.
While many of these products are the basis for the expensive cleansers that you will find at the drugstore, using them in a natural form can take a little more time. But remember that these natural acne home remedies can also be kinder to your skin than their manufactured counterparts, which can ultimately have a more healthful effect on the condition of your skin.
Your kitchen contains many products that could be your acne home remedy. If you are fed up trying those sometimes harsh, highly processed skincare products, then a homemade acne remedy might be the refreshing change that makes a real difference to your skin.
An acne home remedy may work better than you thought.

Enter the Sci fi World of Zits
There are a few important factors when it comes to the causes of acne, but the exact cause is not known. Acne is the end result of bacterial, hormonal, and inflammatory disturbances that take place in the oil pore, commonly known as the pilosebaceous follicle. These sebaceous glands produce increasingly greater amounts of oil over time. There is a scale that is produced on the inside walls of the hair follicle which becomes stickier and builds up, blocking the pore and thus creating whiteheads or blackheads. Acne bacteria is called propionobacterium which grows and multiplies in the retained oil. Many acne treatments on the market focus on removing this excess oil.
Acne can be aggravated by the combined effects of the male hormone testosterone and the acne bacteria which cause the inflammation of the oil gland. When the skin surface and its pores are blocked, acne skin care products help to clear these pores. Certain items like hats, helmets, and pads used in sports, can all contribute to sweating and humidity causing a breakout of acne.
Certain medications that are androgenic in nature can aggravate acne and increase pore blockage due to oil production. Such products as birth control pills and anabolic steroids can cause this. Some other commonly used medications that could aggravate acne include some anti-seizure medications and lithium. You can actually aggravate your acne if you cleanse your skin too much during acne skin care. Try to avoid picking, squeezing, or popping zits and avoid the overzealous use of abrasive facial scrubs. They can irritate your skin or worsen its inflammation. Remember that there are numerous causes of acne and scrubbing your skin excessively could make it worse instead of better. There have been several clinical studies done on acne and diet habits, but no clear associations have been established between certain foods and acne.

Identify Your Acne Before You Get Treatment
Thursday, March 26, 2009
Understanding how to treat your Acne involves knowing which type of Acne may have. Acne has many variations, ranging in severity from mild to much more serious cases that can cause disfigurement. There are many treatments for acne available on the market, but it is very important to first identify your Acne type before choosing a treatment.
Acne Vulgaris
The most common form of Acne is named Acne Vulgaris. This type of acne can be easily identified by looking at the characteristics of the lesions.
- Whiteheads: When a pore becomes completely blocked by trapping sebum, dead skin cells, and bacteria, you will notice a white appearance on the surface. Whiteheads normally will disappear fast than blackheads on your skin. You should resist the temptation to pop these pimples
- Blackheads: When are pore is only partially blocked, the trapped sebum, bacteria and dead skin will have slowly drained to the surface of your skin. The black color is caused by your skins pigment and melanin reacting with oxygen. Blackheads will normally take longer to disappear than whiteheads. You should also resist the temptation to pop these pimples too.
- Pustules: You can identify a pustule by a red circle with a white or yellow center. The pustule will look similar to a whitehead with the difference being inflammation. Pustules are commonly referred to as Zits.
- Papules: The papule is a red, inflamed and tender bump on the skin with no visible head. You should not attempt to squeeze this lesion as you may cause or exacerbate scarring.
- Severe Acne Vulgaris: The sever types of Acne Vulgaris include Nodules and Cysts and will be quite painful. You should consult your dermatologist for treating these types of acne.
Acne Rosacea
Acne Rosacea may look very similar to Acne Vulgaris and often causes confusion. Millions of people are affected by Acne Rosacea, and it mostly strikes people over the age of 30. It will start to appear as a reddish rash on the cheeks, forehead, nose and/or chin. You may also notice small bumps, skin blemishes or pimples in the area. Blackheads are not a symptom of Rosacea. You should consult your dermatologist if you suspect you have Rosacea, because treatment is often very different.
There are other very serious forms of Acne such as Acne Conglobata, Acne Fulminans, Gram-Negative Folliculitis and Pyoderma Faciale. These forms of Acne are very rare, but they can be disfiguring, painful and have psychological effects.
It is always recommended that you consult with your dermatologist to confirm the type of Acne you have and the best treatments available. The above information should only be used as a reference, and only a trained dermatologist can accurately diagnose your Acne.
